This directory is a special advertising section, with information provided by each camp or program. This directory is designed to make your search easy and informed. Camps tend to fill up early. Camp Alleghany is an all-girls overnight summer camp, located in the Alleghany Mountains in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Offering two 3-week sessions at a time on the beautiful and peaceful banks of the Greenbrier River; the perfect environment to achieve our mission of naturally inspiring growth through honor, loyalty and friendship. Full-term session of six weeks is also available. Established in 1922 – the oldest girls’ camp in the Virginia’s. Celebrating our 94th summer!

Junior Camp for ages 8-10 is one week. Senior Camps for ages 11-15 are two-week sessions offered in three different sessions with each including a 3-day backpacking trip. Campers wake to the sunlight and birdsong, hike, swim, and hunt for salamanders and butterflies in this eastern WV wildlife sanctuary. Enjoy variety and laughter in small groups and individual projects. Accredited by the American Camping Association.

Summer Math Challenge

On average, all students, regardless of socio-economic status, lose approximately 2.6 months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation over the summer months each year.* a FREE math skills maintenance program based on grade-level standards that help prepare students for college and careers. Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge

The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a free online reading program for children during the summer months. A free reading program dedicated to stopping the “Summer Slide” and encouraging kids to read every day this summer. Now in its eighth year, the Summer Challenge invites kids to log the minutes they spend reading as they Read for the World Record. Starts in May. Children ages 4-14. Book lists by age available. West Virginia Libraries Summer Reading Program 2016

Contact your local library for days and hours for this summer’s reading programs. The general theme this year is Heros. Kids’ theme is “Every Hero Has a Story!”. Teen theme is “Unmasked” A great way to help children improve and maintain reading skills during the summer. Some summer library programs require pre-registration. Dates and times TBA.
